Do you wonder what’s going on underneath the surface?

Depth Psychotherapy is an exploration of your inner life. In a safe and non-judgemental space, we will sit and listen to the story of your life to try to hear both what is being said and also what is left unsaid. We will inquire into the subconscious parts of your psyche to see how they are affecting your conscious life. The most pressing concerns in your day-to-day existence are often influenced by unconscious root causes. By exploring these root causes, and by bringing parts of your subconscious into your conscious awareness, you will gain more understanding of your emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and psyche.

Get to the root of your problems

I like to use the metaphor of weeding a garden when talking about depth therapy. If you are gardening and you use scissors to trim back the weeds, they will regrow in the exact same place as before. This will happen again and again until you decide to use the trowel and dig down to pull the weed out from its roots. You may not want to get your hands dirty, and it may seem easier and faster to use the scissors, but ultimately digging deep is necessary for fundamental change to happen.

This is also true of the emotional and psychological pain in your life. If you just “trim” your problems, or try to come up with short term quick-and-easy solutions, you might miss the deeper root of why the problems are showing up in the first place. By taking a depth approach we understand the underlying root cause that is manifesting as the negative symptoms in your life.

How does this work?

In Depth Psychotherapy the patient or client comes in to the therapy office and shares whatever is on their mind. This can be frustrating experiences they have been having lately, a passing idea or dream, or even a seemingly irrelevant thought. The idea is that everything that emerges in our minds and psyches is a a symbol or signal from some aspect of ourselves. It is the job of the therapist to interpret and examine together with the patient to gain deeper understanding from those pieces of thought that the client brings in to create an in depth picture of what is happening inside.

“If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place”
