I am not in-network with any insurance providers. However, many of my clients with PPO insurance plans receive reimbursements for out-of-network services.
How this works is that you will pay for therapy at the time of service. At the end of each month, I will then provide you with a “Superbill” to submit to your insurance. If you have a PPO plan, your insurance should reimburse you for part of the cost of therapy, depending on your specific plan’s benefits and deductible. You can ask your insurance what their reimbursement for outpatient psychotherapy services with an out of network provider. It may also be helpful to give them the following "CPT" or service codes:
90834 for individual therapy
90847 for couples therapy

I typically meet with my clients once or twice each week. I find consistent sessions to be the most effective way to achieve meaningful and lasting changes. I don’t generally work with clients less frequently than once per week.

I am currently seeing clients in person in Santa Cruz as well as online within the state of California.
Some people find the in person connection to be invaluable to the therapeutic process, while others prefer the flexibility of online work. We can work together to decide whether meeting in person or online would be better for you. -
It really depends on a number of factors including what you are trying to accomplish in therapy, who you are as a person, and how motivated and open you are to the process.
Usually my clients feel some relief after several sessions, and start to see more fundamental changes after around 6 months. More often, my clients will work with me for several years in an attempt to deeply explore the core dynamics and recurring patterns of their psyche and relationships.
It takes decades for our psyches to form into who are as people today. It wont take decades to heal, but it often will take years to really do the deep work of reshaping ourselves and reforming hurt or wounded parts of ourselves. This is not fast work unfortunately, but it can be life changing. -
I see clients Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional Friday morning appointments.

Appointments canceled with less than 48 hours' notice will be charged in full, unless we're able to reschedule for another time in the same calendar week. Unfortunately, I’m not able to offer exceptions for illness or emergencies.
I charge for cancellations because when I save a time for you I’m unable to offer it to someone else. This policy supports the sustainability of my practice and honors the commitment we’ve made to your therapy. -

The best way to get started is for us to have a brief 10-15 minute consultation call where we can meet each other and I can hear a bit about what you are looking for. If you enjoy talking on the phone with me and we decide it would be a good idea to schedule a first session we will find a time to meet for our first full 50 minute session.
After the first, or several sessions we will have a better sense of whether its really going to work for us to meet regularly, and we can decide on a regular time to meet weekly. -
I work with adults and adolescents as young as around 14 years of age, depending on the child’s maturity level. I’m not the best fit to work with younger children as they usually benefit from more of a “play therapy” approach which I am not set up for or experienced in.

While I would be happy to consult with your family member or friend for therapy, it is best to have them reach out to me directly for a consultation call. Things don’t usually work out so well if you are the one setting up therapy for them as therapy requires a certain willingness and motivation to get something out of it.
Please have your family member or friend call me or send me a message and I would be happy to consult with them.
The exception to this would be for minors or adolescents, it can make sense for me to speak to the parent before an initial consult with the patient themselves. -
I primarily take a depth oriented or psychodynamic / psychoanalytic approach to therapy. You can read more about these approaches on my website. Generally this means I am interested in helping my clients gain insight into deeper dimensions of their experience and I believe that healing happens by exploring hidden dimensions of yourself rather than just working with the obvious or apparent presenting symptoms.

I’ll ask you to share what is on your mind and we will explore from there. Your only job will be to share whatever you are thinking in the moment, and it is my job to make sense of what you share and weave it into a tapestry of meaning and insight that will help you in your life.
